Haus Wendy/Jugendhotel Wendy
is located in the centre of the village of Mauterndorf with every
local facility virtually on the doodrstep including restaurants,
banks, bakers, bars, supermarket, sports shop and tourist
information office.
Mauterndorf is located within
a region of Austria known as the Lungau in the south of the state of
Salzburg and boasts having the village with the longest hours of
sunshine in the whole of Austria.
In addition to the many varied
and high quality establishments, Mauterndorf offers the visitor a
raft of sports and leisure facilities. There is a large open air
heated swimming pool with giant slides and diving boards, a steam
railway, an aerodrome with gliders, light aircraft and regular hot
air ballooning. From Wendy's front door you can head off directly
into the mountains on foot or on mountain bike. We have horse
riding, lama treking, archery, parapente, para gliding, fishing,
rock climbing, tennis or quite simply level walking through some
magnificent mountain scenery.
Mauterndorf sits at an
elevation of 1100 metres and therefore has a very good snow record
in the winter and enjoys a long sunny summer with an average

In winter, Wendys is a just a
short stroll to the local ski bus top which takes you around the
corner, in a just a few minutes, to the brand new Grosseck/Spieireck
8 man gondola which is the start of a journey which can take you to
an elevation of 2400 metres. The skiing is varied and there are good
facilities for both the novice and the expert with some particularly
good off piste powder when the conditions are right. Boarders will
find the lack of Poma lifts a bonus. Other ski areas which are
covered on the same pass are Katchberg/Aineck and Fanningberg and
they are all connected by the local ski bus. Obertauern is a 20
minute drive away and is a very high snow sure resort and has every
type of run imagineable. Here the season starts at the beginning of
December and usually ends in May
